Located on the pier of Deerfield Beach, Florida is a custom-fabricated porthole, but that isn’t the only thing that makes this AIS special.
Funded by the Deerfield Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), the Deerfield Beach porthole measures 7 ft. x 7 ft. and is affixed with marine-grade brass attachments and decorative vinyl. Housed inside the cabinet is a 55” weather-proof LED television, connected to an underwater camera that feeds real-time footage of the ocean straight back to viewers on the pier in 4K Ultra HD resolution.
This unique, live-art component is also accessible to viewers on YouTube. Streamers tend to gather in the chat, cataloguing their findings with other members of the community. Occasionally, there’s even a glimpse of the hammerhead known to frequent the waters. The stream can be found here and is accessible 24/7.
