The history of the Potomac Mills sign is a storied one. The beloved Virginian icon stood tall over I-95 for many years, and at its inception, it was one of the world's largest flex-face signs, but as time went on, it certainly took a beating.
2011 brought a freak rainstorm to Prince William County, and with it, winds damaged the sign's face. A few months later, the sign was restored to its former glory. Flash forward six years to 2018, and you'd find another storm nearly toppled the structure. With the old sign bent at the supports, officials were forced to close part of the highway.
Simon Property Group came to American & Interstate Signcrafters looking to cure the problem permanently.
Our solution was a 140' formidable pylon sign with LEDs spanning 43' wide, divided into two sections. The logo and lettering consist of 10 backer panels occupying 711 sq. ft. It's adorned with LED front-lit channel letters, measuring 33" tall. The choice to go with LED modules allows Simon to customize their signage colors if they choose. With the new steel poles in place, the entire project was assembled in-air by our American & Interstate crew without a hitch.
