2,300+ signs. One coordinated environment.

The Challenge

An arena of this scale is not one signage project. It is dozens of overlapping ones, delivered inside an active construction schedule alongside a general contractor, an architect, and a design firm who each had a stake in how the finished environment would read.

AIS was contracted by Forest City Ratner and worked closely with Hunt Construction as general contractor, SHoP as architect, and Pentagram as designer. Every element had to satisfy the design intent, the construction sequence, and the practical needs of a venue that moves large crowds.

The program covered the full range of exterior identification and interior environment, manufactured and installed by AIS.

How AIS Delivered

Interior finishes used powder-coated aluminum developed specifically to coordinate with the arena's iconic exterior steel bands, so the inside of the building reads as a continuation of the outside rather than a separate palette.

Manufacturing and installation stayed under one accountable team, which kept fabrication decisions, field conditions, and design review on the same track instead of moving between vendors.

The Result

More than 2,300 signs across a 675,000 sq. ft. arena, with a wayfinding system that supports navigation inside the venue and connections to Atlantic Terminal — one of the busiest transit points in Brooklyn.
